eye-ttoman Upholstery process February 27, 2016 1. Frame was constructed out of poplar and legs out of maple. 2. Tacked on jute webbing. 3. 8-way tied springs were applied to the seating surface for extra cushioning and 'bounce'. 4. Structure was covered with felt and burlap. A twine grid was sewed over the covering in preparation for the horse hair. 5. Horse hair was stuffed onto the structure using the grid. 6. Then an outer layer of cotton. Project continues to grow in size... 7. Padded eye 'buttons' were made out of masonite, foam, and fabric-covered styrene (for the pupil). Thread was looped through both the pupil and masonite disk. 8. Eyes are finished! A base layer with a 'beach ball' pattern was pulled over the structure like a sock. 9. Applying the final fabric, both machine and hand stitch. 10. Eyes were pressed/tufted in and tacked onto the inner structure. And.... finished!
